Top Matchbox Collectibles

Matchbox cars were once thought of as toys for little ones, but these older versions can bring high prices for big boys. Collecting and selling these miniatures have grown into a profitable business. Here are some of the most valuable matchbox cars:
1953 Aveling Barford Road Roller may not be the most attractive Matchbox car, but it was the first. Collectors are willing to pay well for this toy when it comes up for auction.
1967 Mercedes Benz 230SL- this apple green model topped out at $6765 in 1999 for a lucky buyer.
1966 Opel Diplomat-this car cost $.48 when it debuted in the sixties. Now, it is worth a healthy $9,000.
1961 Magirus Deutz Crane (No.30)- One lucky collector bought one of these for $10 at a garage sale and then re-sold it at auction for $10,000! Another die-hard fan bought one in 2004 for $13,000.
1965 BP Dodge Wrecker-this reverse color Matchbox recently brought $8,499 on an Ebay auction.
With values topping out in the thousands, Matchbox cars are certainly a substantial investment for collectors.
